Cong Phuong stole the show, helping Ho Chi Minh City thrash Viettel
Cong Phuong had the best match since moving to Ho Chi Minh City as he contributed 1 goal and 1 assist to help the home team defeat Viettel.
Coach Chung Hae Seong surprised in this match by putting both Van Thuan and Phi Son on the bench, instead Hoang Thinh and Huy Toan started the match.
Right in the 4th minute, the home fans got shocked by a long-range situation of Que Ngoc Hai, goalie Thanh Thang saved the net and pushed the ball to Bruno's place. The striker of Viettel surprisingly ended up outside at a distance of only 2 meters in front of the empty goal.
The visitors were clearly the better players. But the goal to open the score belonged to the HCMC club. Seo Yong-suk penetrated the penalty area and bounced high and viciously beat goalkeeper Nguyen Manh.
After the goal, Viettel players still maintain the game like the previous minutes. They created some more chances but the goal has yet to come. The first half ended with 1-0 in favor of the HCMC club.
Entering the second half, Viettel proactively pushed the team up and put the ball into the 2 lines. By the 61st minute, Cong Phuong dribbled the ball confidently against defensive players and then shot with his left foot, the ball hit the goal post then rolled into the net of Nguyen Manh.
Just a few minutes later, Cong Phuong continued to make a mark with the assist for Huy Toan. Receiving the ball from his team-mate, Huy Toan broke through two defenders, dribbled through Viettel's goalkeeper and then finished into the empty goal. The score was 3-0 for HCMC club.
With the third goal, Viettel's fighting spirit has decreased significantly. The match ended with a 3-0 absolute victory for the HCMC club. A worthy result for Chung Hae-seong’s side. Cong Phuong was the best player in this match, with 1 goal and 1 assist and a series of situations that threaten Viettel's goal.
This victory has brought the HCMC club temporarily to No. 2 on the list, but less goal difference than Binh Duong.
