Van Quyet: ‘It’s pity that I wasn’t called up’
Hanoi FC captain Nguyen Van Quyet has expressed his disappointment for being dismissed from the national team.
Quyet scored a goal and assisted Kebe in the second goal in Hanoi FC’s triumph over Quang Nam in the 2019 National Cup final on Thursday.
“It's a pity that I wasn’t called up. I tried my best at my club and scored in almost every tournament. My contributions have been recognized,” Van Quyet told the media after the match.
Quyet had a successful season with Hanoi FC in both the V-League and the National Cup. He played a key role in Hanoi’s advancement to the AFC Cup 2019 inter-zonal final and was honored as “Player of the year” in V-League 2019.
But coach Park Hang-seo said Quyet doesn’t fit in to the national team. The South Korean strategist wants a player who can both attack and defend.
“Many people have asked me about Van Quyet. He is a talented player, but the tactics in his club and the national team are different. A good player at the club level doesn’t mean he plays well in the national team. I acknowledge his ability but I have explained the reason,” Park said.
