SEA Games 30: Vietnam, Thailand in group of death
The SEA Games 30 draw for men’ football witnesses many surprises: Vietnam sits in the same group with Thailand.
Men's football:
Group A: Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, East Timor
Group B: Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Singapore, Brunei
Women's football:
Group A: Myanmar, Philippines, Malaysia
Group B: Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia
The draw for SEA Games 30 was held on Tuesday morning with the highest attention paid to football.
The men’s and women’s football will be each divided into two groups.
Vietnam is grouped with Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, Singapore and Brunei. Besides heavy opponents, U22 Vietnam will have to play one more match than those in group A.
The host’s group looks more comfortable with the Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia and East Timor. Two winners of each group and 2 second-placed teams will reach the semis.
For women’s football, U22 coach Mai Duc Chung is pooled in a tough group with Thailand and Indonesia. Last August, Vietnam’s women team defeated Thailand 1-0 in the AFF Cup 2019 final.
Men’s football will take place from November 26 to December 9 while women’s football will kick off on November 28.
