World Cup qualifiers are postponed in 2020?
According to FIFA vice president Victor Montagliani, all international matches may only return in 2021, which will greatly affect the schedule of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
According to NBC, FIFA vice president and president of North-Central America Football Association, Victor Montagliani has recently voiced concern about international matches in 2020. Specifically, due to the influence of the Covid-19, the matches of national teams under FIFA's control may only return in 2021.
Previously, FIFA had postponed the entire series of matches between national teams expected to take place in March and June. Mr. Montagliani believes that the matches in September, October and November of this year will not be possible.
"I personally think that could be a challenge, this issue is related to the health of people around the globe. Local football leagues are still FIFA's number one priority.
As for the national team, matches are still scheduled for September, but I'm not sure if it will be. This will depend on the production of the Covid-19 vaccine, and may have to wait until 2021," Mr. Montagliani told the Associated Press.
"If you take football internationally then it can be a big problem. If FIFA allows international matches to come back, the stands will have a lot of spectators. That will be a big risk not only with public health but also affect other areas of society.
At epidemic hotspots such as Europe and North America, international-level football is likely to be postponed for the entire 2020. I am confident that the March series next year will take place normally,” FIFA vice president say more.
As expected, the 2022 World Cup qualifiers around the world will have to end by the end of 2021. However, if international football is really postponed to the end of 2020, the FIFA vice president believes that the World Cup qualifier could be lasting until early 2022.
