UAE pillar accused of a fake injury to avoid competition in the 2022 World Cup qualifier
Striker Ahmed Khalil was accused by the UAE media of deliberately pretending to be injured to avoid matches in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Ahmed Khalil, 29, is one of the main strikers of the UAE national team. Currently, this player is playing for Al-Ahli Club. Ahmed Khalil is a member of the UAE’s "Golden Generation", winning tickets to the 2012 Olympics.Khalil made his debut for the UAE team when he was only 17 years old. The striker got high form when he helped the UAE become the champions of AFC U19 Championship in 2008, and won two individual titles, the top scorer, and the best player in the tournament. In the national shirt, Khalil also made an impressive achievement when he scored 14 goals in 13 games in 2015, helping the UAE win the Asian Cup bronze medal. Currently the striker has 103 caps for the UAE national team and scored 48 goals.
According to the Live Sport Asia, Ahmed Khalil faked his injury so he did not have to attend UAE matches in the 2022 World Cup qualifier. This accusation shocked West Asia fans because Ahmed Khalil was one of their greatest hopes, besides the high-scoring striker is Ali Mabkhout.
In opposition to the accusations of the Live Sport Asia, striker Ahmed Khalil wrote on his personal page: "Everything is not as the media described. I would love to see the coaching staff with coach Ivan Jovanovic. The medical team has confirmed I need to take a break. It is an honor to be summoned to recruit and I never want to avoid. "
The UAE team is having a hard time losing 2 matches against Thailand and Vietnam in the 2022 World Cup qualifier. The manager was also changed when coach Bert van Marwijk was fired to make way for Ivan Jovanovic. The next match of the UAE team will be with Malaysia on March 26.
