The schedule for the start of the K League 2020 Season, Korea's first division, is postponed indefinitely after the country experienced the alarming situation of the corona virus.

South Korea is currently on the highest national alert status when the COVID-19 epidemic broke out in Daegu city. However, the virus has spread throughout the country, including military forces.

And K League organizers decided to postpone the new season indefinitely to cope with the epidemic after an emergency council meeting on Monday.

"This decision has been made to protect the health and safety of the public and players in response to the outbreak of corona outbreaks," said Kwon Oh-gap president of the K League.

"The South Korean government raised the warning level to COVID-19 to a serious level on February 23 and local authorities were encouraged to limit the conduct of crowded meetings and events," the president of the K League said.

"We will monitor developments until the corona virus threat has actually settled down and will announce the new tournament schedule accordingly," said a K League representative.

During the meeting, the board of directors decided that the home matches of the Korean clubs in the AFC Champions League 2020 will be held as scheduled but in the closed stadium there is no audience.

The 2020 season of the Korean domestic league was originally scheduled to kick off on February 29, where defending champion Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors set out to defend its title.
