Thailand wants to 'revenge' Vietnam at King's Cup 2020?
There are many reasons to believe that Thailand will invite Vietnam to attend the King's Cup 2020.
Due to the plague of Covid-19, the King's Cup 2020 wont be organise following the annual practise. Recently, FAT’s Acting General Secretary Phatit Suphaphong has revealed to reschedule to September, when teams prepare for the matches of World Cup 2022 qualifiers.
However, this is still a plan on paper because when Thailand controls the disease and has the permission of the government, the tournament can be proceeded normally. Last year, Park Hang-seo and Vietnam national team came second in King's Cup 2019.
It was Vietnam Tel that defeated Thailand in the first match, this year FAT can completely plan to invite Vietnam for many reasons.
Firstly, this is an opportunity for Thailand to revenge against Park’s side. The defeat at home last year was like a slap in Thai pride, so now the Thai team is now stable under the guidance of Nishino, they are completely confident to defeat Vietnam.
Secondly, Thailand and Vietnam have met at the World Cup 2022 qualifiers, so the two teams can comfortably play their best in a rich traditional tournament.
Third, with the current complex epidemic situation, it is very difficult to choose an opponent. While Vietnam is controlling the epidemic very well and football is also on the rise. Vietnam is also a competitor with high professional quality. The match between Vietnam and Thailand always attracts great attention of international football fans so the attractiveness of the tournament also increases, the broadcast right price is also better.
Considering all the above reasons, Vietnam will be the ideal guest, meeting all criteria for FAT's desire. The Vietnamese side also recently announced that it will focus on September instead of June as expected. If there is a quality friendly match like King's Cup, there is nothing better than having a final practice before World Cup 2022 qualifiers.
