Thai newspaper is happy with the new schedule of World Cup 2022 qualifiers
The Siamsport newspaper said that the move to the 2022 World Cup in Asia qualifying for 2021 is good news for Thailand.
Recently, FIFA as well as the AFC announced the postponement of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Asia in October and November and reschedule the competition to the following year. Expectingly, the remaining matches will take place in January and February 2021.
In addition, FIFA also drafted 6 short-term gatherings in 2021, to complete the final round of the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Specifically, these gatherings lasted from about 8 - 15 days, depending on each phase.
Depending on the length of the "FIFA Days", there will be 2 - 4 World Cup qualifying rounds in each period.
After receiving this information, the Thai media proved extremely happy. They said that the 2022 World Cup qualifying in Asia was moved to the next year is good news for Thailand.
The Siamsport newspaper wrote: "FIFA will move the focus on August and September as the old calendar, to the beginning of next year or at the beginning of the following year, specifically from January 24 to February 1.
The fact that the World Cup qualifiers are moved to the next year is beneficial for Thai players, especially those playing in Japan, because if the qualifiers take place in August and September as the same schedule, then the tournament J-League will take place a lot of matches in the time mentioned above.
Currently, Thailand is ranked 3rd in Group G with 8 points after 5 matches. They are 3 points behind Vietnam. To win tickets to the final qualifying round, Akira Nishino will have to win in the remaining 3 matches. This is not an easy task for Thailand at the present time.
