Thai League restarts in parallel with AFF Cup 2020, Van Lam has no chance to come back to Vietnam
Van Lam's chance to participate in the AFF Cup 2020 final was almost closed when the secretary general of the Thai football federation confirmed that Thai League clubs do not need to release it players.
Under the plan AFF, the AFF Cup 2020 will still be guaranteed to hold on November 23 to December 31. Therefore, the tournament will coincide with the time when the Thai-Thai League will restart after the Covid-19 epidemic, from September to next May.
This makes Thailand difficult to summon the best names for the national team when the two tournaments take place at the same time.
Recently, the secretary general of the Thai Football Federation also said that Thai League clubs have absolutely no obligation to release people for the AFF Cup 2020.
Speaking to Thai media, Pathit Suphaphong, Secretary-General of Thailand, said: “The Thai League will still take place at the same time as the AFF Cup 2020 - the tournament is scheduled to be held from November to the end of December and FIFA Day allows clubs not to release it players. Not only the Thai team but many other teams are also affected. Therefore, we need to inform them soon.”
Thus, the number 1 goalkeeper of Vietnam NT, Dang Van Lam will almost be unable to attend the AFF Cup 2020. In the context that goalkeeping position is a difficult problem for Park Hang-seo, this information will make the Korean strategist worried more in choosing the main goalie for Vietnam in the defending championship campaign at the AFF Cup.
