Nishino: Thailand is determined to reach AFC U23 Championwhip 2020 quarter finals
Speaking before the match against Saudi Arabia, coach Nishino wants to bring Thailand U23 to the semi-finals of U23 Asia 2020.
After U23 Vietnam crahsed out, U23 Thailand will be the only representative of Southeast Asian football in the AFC U23 Championship 2020 finals. Akira Nishino's army will face a very strong opponent, U23 Saudi Arabia.
Speaking before the quarter-finals, coach Akira Nishino highly appreciated the power of U23 Saudi Arabia. However, the Japanese strategist still aims to bring Thailand U23 to the semi-finals.
Nishino said: "I am very proud to lead Thailand to the quarterfinals. All the players have played their best. We will continue our efforts to win and go to the semi-finals.
Of course, the knockout round will be very different from the group stage and the pressure is much bigger. I have to admit Thailand is weaker than Saudi Arabia. They are a very strong team. The important thing is that Thailand U23 must continue to play in its own style, which is the speed when the players are constantly moving on the field. We have overcome the challenge in the group stage and currently U23 Thailand is ready to overcome the challenge at a higher level.
I think Saudi Arabia has a physical advantage. They usually play 4 defenders but can change tactics to 3 defenders very quickly. My players do not have much experience in the international arena, but I believe they have the ability to help Thailand win U23 ".
According to the schedule, U23 Thailand will face U23 Saudi Arabia at 5:15 on January 18.
