Indonesia faces challenges before the World Cup 2022
The outbreak of Covid-19 is beginning to affect Indonesian football.
The Covid-19 virus epidemic is affecting football platforms in Southeast Asia when Vietnam and Thailand have postponed League matches . While the first round of V-League takes place without the audience, Thai League will be back for 45 days after the first 3 rounds.
According to the latest information from the Indonesian press, the organizers are also considering delaying the series in the next round. The first match between Persija Jakarta and Persebaya Surabaya on March 7 will be cancelled.
President Joko Widodo announced two cases from Depok infected with Covid-19. The government warns that the number of people infected will increase in the coming days. Due to the risk of infection in the community, Liga 1 organizers had to postpone the match. City officials also called for a halt to sporting and cultural events to ensure maximum safety for the people.
If the disease outbreaks out of control, it will be a big risk for Indonesia in general and its football in particular. At the end of March Indonesia will play 2 matches in the 2022 World Cup qualifier. After the trip to Thailand on March 26, Indonesia will return to the UAE to welcome the UAE at Gelora Bung Karno on March 31.
